Hockey legend Guy Lafleur spent 17 seasons and won five Stanley Cup Championships with the Montreal Canadiens. He also played briefly with the New York Rangers and the Quebec Nordiques. Joining Lafleur at the breakfast will be Marc Trestman, the first Jewish head coach of the Montreal Alouettes since Marv Levy. Others on the confirmed list are Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Commissioner Gilles Courteau and new Montreal franchise owner Farrel Miller, Montreal Impact defender Adam Braz, Concordia Stingers Hockey Team Head Coach Kevin Figsby, former Habs Rick Green and Sergio Momesso and Sam Bloom of the McGill Redmen hockey team. Many more names will be announced in the days and weeks ahead. Montreal Canadiens assistant coach and former team captain Kirk Muller and former Canadiens coach and present day hockey broadcaster Jacques Demers are expected to attend as is at least one member of the present-day Canadiens. Media-types present will include Jim Bay, Andie Bennett, Rick Moffat, Dave Stubbs, Randy Tieman and Herb Zurkowsky, the latter of whom is also on the event planning committee. Recording artist Daniel Iorio, noted for his popular sports spoof songs which play regularly on Montreal radio stations, will debut a special song dedicated to Lafleur and perform some of his other favorite tunes.
One of the unique features of this event will be celebrities seated at different tables throughout the room in addition to a head table. A silent auction for a variety of sports memorabilia will be held. The committee planning the event is Chaired by Michael Wagen, Senior Vice President of Delmar Group. Mike Cohen and Larry Fredericks will serve as Masters of Ceremony.
Cost of tickets is $15. A souvenir program book and a full breakfast are included. For more information call Susan Rozansky at 514-342-1234 local 7234.
